Love?

why does anyone write about love? typically people write poems when their in love, or when they get a broken heart. as well that's how song lyrics come about. people are always writing about how happy they feel and how there hearts beat so fast and the butterflies that you get in your stomach when the person you love looks at you, then gives you one of those smiles that just makes you smile and glow. then there are the others that write about how much pain you are in when you get dumped. your heart physically hurts as well as your whole body, you just want to lock yourself in a pitch black room. you would rather have all misery around you than see anyone happy, including your best friend.

people write about the joys and the sorrows of love because it is something that everyone can relate to. when people are in love you always wish them the best and as well as making them happy, it also makes yourself happy until you realize that you want that type of love also.

i believe that love is a fools gold. it never truly exists except to the mind. you cant touch love and you cant see it. just because someone says it, does not mean that its true. like is a better word that love. love doesn't exist.

hamlet, a tragedy

hamlet is a tragedy because the play starts off where his father is killed, and then his fathers ghost wants to get revenge for his unnecessary death. as well as that, he is also just a loser who has no friends and sucks with woman. this story is filled with so much death, sadness, and anger that there is no way that anyone can be happy at all. if there was even a little bit of happiness in this play, everything might have turned out a lot better for hamlet.

in all honesty, hamlet could have changed his life around after the death of his father. he could have taken the death as an enlightening moment for himself and married Ophelia? he could have also been happy and supportive for his mom about her new marriage although it was to his uncle. overall, hamlet had every opportunity to change thins for himself as well as for everyone else. had he done that, this play might have come out differently than anyone expected.

what was it about?

after reading the story the Double, the only thing that i could really understand is that the main character Mr. G is a crazy who who seems to have a split personality. through out the story, Mr. G never finishes his thoughts as well as i believe that he is taken over by his other personality. his other personality is one that surpasses who he normally is in every aspect. this new personality ie his double, is so much netter than him. as well as this, i also think that the author tries to blur the thin line of where Mr G is still sane into the part where his double starts to take over, thus confusing the reader (especially if your still lost from the beginning of the book). overall i think that this book just shows how close the lines of normal and insanity start to blur together.

Mr. Goliadkin

when i first started reading the Double, i had no clue as to what is really going on in the story. its confusing and to me, it seems to skip around a lot. due to this, I'm kind of confused as to who each of the characters are in the story. from what i can understand, Mr Goliadkin has received money whether it was just with drawing it form the bank or somehow winning the lotto, all he wants to do is act like he is some super rich and powerful guy when in reality he is probably just some middle class loser who is not liked by very many people if any.  Mr. G wants to drive around town (in a limo/fancy car) trying to show that he has all of this money. as well, he goes to all of these expensive stores that he would never normally visit and he tells them all that he is going to buy stuff from each of there shops, and so he picks out all of these items and promises to send money but in reality he really is not going to end up getting any of the things that he picked out. i think that Mr. G is just a con man and a loser.

Authors and Death

as horrible as this may sound, every single person (from church boy to old man) is interested in death. if you or i for example was to watch a murder take place, neither of us would be able to take our eyes away from what was going on. there is just something about it that entices us. authors often write about death i think as a way to convey their thoughts or emotions on to the readers. i also think that by writing about death, it makes the reader stop and think about everything going on not only in the story but also in real life. death is a prominent thing in life it happens every day and at some point in life you experience the emotions and thoughts as well as the nothingness that comes with it. I've personally experienced the effects that death causes. in one year i lost six people, one right after the next. the hardest ones was when i knew it was coming. when you know death is coming it makes it more real as well as it brings fear. fear of the unknown. obviously you cant really die and then come back to life and write about it so instead authors try to make it as real as possible so that its not as feared. they don't want to glorify death, but they want to make it better? or at least in the way that we think of death now.

The Moon is Down - part 2

in the second half of the book, The Moon is Down, i believe that the town as a whole won, but overall as individuals everyone lost. the townspeople were able to get help even with those simple bombs that were dropped. with that happening i think that was what really helped them win only because it was a boost to their confidence that they could actually fight back against the enemy.

on the other hand, everyone lost because every single person had their own individual battle that they had to face. one example of this is when Molly kills the soldier that was pretty much harassing her, the same soldier that killed her husband Alex. Molly has to suffer through her husband getting killed, living alone trying to fend for her self, killing the soldier, and then finally escaping leaving everything and everyone that she knows behind. when she does have to flee for her life, she probably couldnt take anything with her either.

months beore the was was actually over, the soldiers were starting to have low morral which in turn made it even worse for them because it kept spreading and getting worse, especially when they would start talking about everything that they missed from back at home like girls, and beer, and even having a dog.

overall, in war no one wins. people die on both sides both mentally and physically. it takes everything out of and from a person. when its over, you have nothing left and most of the time there is nothing for you to want to go home to even.

The Moon is Down - part 1

the invasion that takes place pretty much happens without a hitch-other than the six men who died. when thinking about this, six men is not that much compared to the hundreds that we are losing now on a weekly basis. i think that if i was there during this time when the small town is being invaded i would probably be shocked at first. not really knowing what to do or not to do. as time progressed though, i believe that i would at least try to get away from what was happening. although the struggle is there to keep things as normal as possible i feel that the appearances that are trying to be kept up are slipping. at the end of 'part 1' when the mayor kissed Alex on the cheek, i think that is when the emotions of everyone start to appear because (the way i imagine it) the mayor starts to cry only because he must sacrifice another one of his loyal citizens to protect the rest.

when Molly, Alex's wife finds out that he is to be killed, that is when it is really time for people to stand up for them selves against the invasion and the new military. molly does not want anyone to touch her, but at the same time she wants someone to be there with her during the trial and murder of her husband. she tries to stand tall and brave but in the end she cant becaue she has no strength for it.

on one final side note, "Captain Loft believed that all women fall in love with a uniformand he did not see how it could be otherwise" (21). i find this suprising to be in the book only because Steinbeck is a guy and how could he know anything like this. i do fully admit that it is true (for me). there is just something about a uniform that makes a heart flutter no matter who is wearing the uniform.
